HELLO!
My name is Simge, founder of Object Petit a Ceramics.
I am a Manchester-based ceramic artist and arts facilitator. In my work, I use clay to explore themes like care, belonging, and everyday human experience.
In the studio, clay is a way for me to think. Working with my hands helps me reflect on emotions, memories, and situations that are sometimes hard to put into words. My sculptures often come from these moments of thinking through making.
Alongside my studio practice, I run reflective clay workshops. These are simple, guided sessions where people use clay to explore a theme or personal experience. The focus is not on making something perfect. It’s about slowing down, using your hands, and giving yourself space to think.
The workshops are closely connected to my own practice. In a way, I open up the same creative space I work in and invite others into it. People bring their own ideas, stories, and questions, and we explore them through clay together.
I believe clay can help us pause, reflect, and look at things from a different angle. That’s what both my artwork and my workshops are about.
Thinking with Clay
For me, thinking with clay means using the material to question the world around me.
When I make sculptures, I’m often trying to understand something — a feeling, a situation, or a part of human experience that doesn’t have a simple answer. Working with clay allows me to explore those questions in a physical way.
The workshops come from the same place. In them, I open a similar space for others: a quiet, creative space where people can use clay to reflect on their own thoughts, memories, or experiences.
In that sense, the studio and the workshops are connected. I question the world through clay in my own work, and I invite others to do the same in a shared space.
